Primal Scream – Fortress Studios anniversary party

Thanks to my mate kosso for digging up the video of their version of MC5 – Kick Out The Jams and posting it up on his blog here:

From memory it was the 10th anniversary of fortress studios in about 2004 (but i could be wrong) and they had a private party which involved primal scream playing a full set down in the basement to around 100 odd people. it was suitably messy and brilliant. after the gig had ended it turned into a bit of an indie disco that went on for hours

i remember we ended up back at his flat at some ridiculous hour in the morning and reviewing all the video he took – this is probably the most coherant footage – so you can imagine what the rest is like

nme’s online radio player does my head in

most of my daily use of browser is firefox so i always use ie7 to listen to nme online – but you can guarantee that every few hours you’ll need to refresh or reopen ie7

every now and again the last day or so, ive used firefox for nme radio, cos i got fed up with nme in ie7 – but its now pissing me off in firefox

i reckon theres a memory leak in the player as the reason i stopped using the standalone mac G4 i have to play nme radio – other than the webcam thats all it does – was that every few hours safari would crash so i ended up going back to my main pc setup to play nme online radio. now both FF and ie are showing the same symptoms

this is how you do it

chris martin on nme always gives out mp3 links to stuff that is legally available – realistically unless youre looking for it you dont find it – yet the majors consistently dont get this:

(i nearly got fired at least 3 times back in the mid/late 90’s for having the following labels attitude)

This is chris martins best of 2008 samplers:

Matador Sampler:

i love the naming convention on matadors download file

2 you have to register your email to get the link but thats ok – fair play – if i get bombarded later i can always use a filter or opt back out of any mailings…

how the music industry is nuts

i added a load of music to my ilike so that others would maybe see what i like and i assumed when you got the “play” icon it would play the track – it doesnt – its plays a 30 sec

here’s a conundrum for you

i worked out 2 answers to this – the latter is the one that is supposed to work

the black lines represent match sticks – you can only move ONE and not change the orientation of any other one

you have to complete the equation

probably by making it obvious it might help but as its stands 23 /7 = 2

which obviously doesnt work – and actually as i later pointed out there is a more mathmatical answer which works but this one is pretty close and is quite clever – even if it doesnt actually technically work and is innacurate

tonight, footy and winning stuff

tonight at the tall ships is bingo night which means when i go down to watch the football we cant have the commentary on

it was a very busy night and to be honest i was getting pissed off as i just wanted to watch the footy – albiet with no commentary but about 4 mins before the end i knew it was the last 13 card bingo thing so i bunged in my 2 euros and prepared to watch the last few minutes and try and make track of the card numbers that came out – a minute before the end of the man utd game i’d won 50 euros and there followed a tense few minutes before the utd game finished – i had paid 90% off my bar bill with a spur of the moment decision and utd won – bonus….

grace jones – slave to rhythm has just come on nme radio – i didnt think that would happen but its refreshing to hear it

passport photo update – the photoshop that does uk valid passports machine is still not fixed today

i have to get up at 8am on weds to deliver januarys magazine – fookin ell…

future of the cd and gigs

i’ll preface this with the fact that i have to be careful about what i say – me and the net and the music industry have a turbulant history – hi mr mensch, hello ignition ;)

i read bob lefsetz and to be honest i’m getting bored with the same ole same ole

there’s a certain friend of mine who i used to work with who now works with a quite a high profile artist who i happen to like

through facebook weve just got back in touch and its been great – i was curious to see what they were up to now. they are interested in coming out to live in ibiza so i have obviously extended all offers as i think this person would like it here and they have a 5 year old kid and ibiza is a great place for kids to grow up (yes you read that right..)

so we were talking about the artist they are closely associated to and a recent music press story and this artist then comes out with a statement about releasing new material in the new year

given the fact that the music industry has its head up its arse and is still trying to come to terms with the net (dont get me started on that subject) i was thinking about some of leftsetz ideas and came up with the perfect solution

for years bands have toured to flog their current album – thats why most of them tour – why not do it the other way around….

buying the album is the gig ticket…..

a band has a new album, they announce a tour to promote it – you go to the website, buy the ticket and it gets printed and sent to you – you then take the ticket to the gig and give it to them and they throw that printed material in the bin

what if instead of printing a gig ticket they printed a cd of the album – its a permanent souvenir of the gig you signed up to go see and you move physical product and people come to your gigs and you flog them tshirts etc

obviously labels hate this but if you are your own band/artist you can do it yourself – the days of spending gazillions on album production should be over by now – sure fine if you have the money but its not necessary – if i was a band this exactly what i’d do

make the album itself the gig ticket – its probably just as cheap to print the fuckin cd as it is the paper version

it works for me
