international music summit videos – not….

just thought i’d better check back at their site before i take the piss about the ims not putting their videos up (3 months after it happened) and lo and behold they’ve listed all 12 of the videos you can pay 2 euros a pop to download

except – er you cant – when you try and pay you get a “coming soon” rollover graphic

here is what you do IMS – put the fuckers up and let people watch them – you are NEVER going to make any money out of it – and the time and hassle to set up paypal or whatever c.card system you are going to use is going to just eat into the transaction fee and the fee you’ve paid to someone to set it up in the first place

if you’d done that in the first place you could have had them online 2 months earlier when there was maybe still a buzz about the ims (ps we run www.ishopibiza.com so if you let me have the files i can have them on our shop available as a paying digitial download with a couple of hours…. but we’ll have to charge you for the time and effort and obviously there is a transaction charge to figure in)

upload them and let people watch them – are you still living in 1994 ???

here’s another hint – subscribe to bob lefsetz newsletter – google it

i think its hugely ironic the ims is charging people to watch andrew keens speech…. *shakes head*

i wonder what would happen if someone eventually pays the 10 euros for the “all you can eat” version then just whacks em up on you tube and torrents ? ;)

cloverfield and the dnc and pikes hotel

watched a film called cloverfield last night. its been compared to blair witch project, i guess because the film is done entirely by hand held camera – albiet cinema quality at times.

its quite a bizarre film – you definitely have to suspend disbelief. it reminds me of war of the worlds meets that film with a couple at the end driving into an american river when a nuclear bombs goes off which i think had an rem soundtrack (ps anyone remember the title of that please comment) & meets ghostbusters

the first time i tried to watch it i got bored after 15-20 mins because it was all yuppie manhatten type late 20-somethings – fuck off…. i decided last night to watch it again but skip the first part and get to about 3 minutes before the shit hits the fan – imdb it ;)

then it was sort of fun in a “ok, i just want to watch some brainless film before i go to bed” – plotholes the size of the atlantic but it was ok in thend

all week ive been religously watching the daily show and the colbert report over their democratic national convention in denver. the dnc the other day actually made it to the nme because of r.a.t.m etc playing gigs in denver in support

i wish i could come up with some witty and observant er observances to the shows but i’d simply say watch themselves – jon stewart and stephen colbert do a far better job than i could hope to do. last nights segment where the daily show team hijacked the conference was priceless

i cant wait to watch their next weeks coverage of the republican convention – that will be fun

i have to get up at the ungodly hour of 8am on a SUNDAY MORNING to deliver the ibiza now magazine – i am not a fan of sundays, let alone 8am on a sunday morning but it means that i’ll do the first 6 major outlets, stop off in santa gertrudis and do them and then head down to pikes hotel to lounge by the pool. afterwards my town team santa eulalia, take on barcelona’s b team at our local footy ground – so hopefully i’ll be at that.

on monday i shall kip

there maybe an announcement about an event taking place on the 13th sep at pikes hotel – i’ll know tomorrow

31st Aug evening update Well i could say what i know about whats happened at pikes but i wont, but suffice to say that the breakfast club didnt happen today and is moving to es vive hotel next week – all things being equal the “event” i alluded to will happen on the 14th at es vive

generation kill and hancock

i think i blogged about generation kill yesterday – i think its probably the most important tv series thats come out of the us in years. everyone raves about the wire (with complete justification) but i think generation kill could be a defining moment

i spent 3 hours going out of my way last night (this morning) to watch the last episode – its the first time ive done that

if i was a teacher or anyone in power i would make sure they watched generation kill

anyway, i also watched hancock tonight – now theres a strange film, i was unsure what it was going to be like – will smith/super hero = naff film ? it actually wasnt half bad – theres a couple of twists which made it a bit more than the usual hollywood bollocks

make sure the beers cold, light up a doobie, sit back and its a fun film

soulwax at ibiza rocks

the best bit was a friend taking us to a strip club after the gig – “she” took us – and that was fuckin shit as well – i was so annoyed with those twats from belgium that i couldnt even sit in a strip club and drink a free beer and enjoy it

yes – soulwax and 2 manydj’s were CRAP –

2 manydj’s played the most god awful set you could ever think of – an idiot coudve done better

sorry it was fuckin crap – and i’m not going to do what i normally do and go through photos and spend time resizing and blogging about it because i dont think they deserve it

update: on reflection i did do photos etc, but it was late and i was knackered so didnt do my usual “stay up till 3am and go through photos”

soulwax photos are on the main ibiza blog

soulwax website

i’m off to soulwax tonight for another of the ibiza rocks series of gigs and as usual i do a google search for the nights bands to see if they’ve got a message board i can post photos up to later.

ive found 3 sites – the official site, and 2 unofficial sites. one of the unofficial sites proudly proclaims that it was last updated in 2004 – that’d be them out. The other unofficial site is up to date but has a guestbook type thing – no good.

finally looked at the official soulwax site – this has to be the most annoying website ive ever seen – you have to keep clicking through 15 second film and audio loops – i gave up after about the 8th loop – god knows whether there is actually any information on the band on their site

Sandys Bar, Ibiza

For many years that was all that was required as an address for a letter or postcard to reach its destination. This was back in the day when Laurie Olivier, Denholm Elliott, Terry Thomas and the like used to hide from celebrity in old fincas in the hills surrounding what was then a village. They collected their mail from Sandys Bar because he let them use one of the only phones in town.

Sandy’s has the ‘number one’ bar and restaurant location in the most affluent town in the whole of Spain. Right alongside the town hall of Santa Eulalia, at the head of the Paseo leading down to the town’s beach. You might describe it as the ‘perfect location’…

A bar/restaurant of this quality rarely comes to the market.

After a three year renovation project, Sandy’s is now back to its former glory and ready for its new tenants.

History, location, ambience – Sandy’s has it all…

Ibiza Online shop

Whilst the world and his wife are crying into their beer about the state of the global economy, this seems to be the perfect time to expound upon the world of positive thinkers – those who call problems ‘opportunities’.

ishop ibizaAlthough this is a scenario that is undoubtedly being acted out all over the planet right now, it’s comforting to know that many of the island’s entrepreneurs are turning this year’s disappointing attendance figures to their advantage by taking their products to their audience, rather than waiting for the punters to come to them.

Yes, we’re talking about our armchair visitors, that increasing band of smart arses who do their business over the internet, whilst sitting on the loo with their smart phone first thing in the morning, or over a coffee as they wipe the sleep from their eyes.

It’s official – Ibiza is open all year round if you live in this new virtual world called the 21st century. As we celebrate the return of direct winter flights, courtesy of Ryanair, a lot of the island’s retailers are already looking at the options available in this new millennium and taking advantage of our latest initiative.

This is called iShopIbiza.com and forms an integral part of your www.ibiza-now.com web site, in the same way that iPhoneIbiza.com is part of the same family. Whereas iPhoneIbiza installs the ‘Yellow Pages’ for the island into your mobile phone, iShopIbiza gives you the ability to buy the island’s most iconic products 24/7, 365 days a year, wherever you happen to be.

ishop ibizaOur product list began with the range of books that we publish here at magazine HQ, but through popular demand has been expanded to include other publisher’s books, a hotel booking service, tickets for the nightclubs and, most recently, the top selling fashions, music and merchandise from some of the biggest names on the island.

However, we’re exercising a strict modicum of quality control over this ‘shop’. The products that you’ll find here are certified ‘authentic’ and of sufficient quality to be associated with the magazine. We’ve test driven almost all of them, apart from the Ibiza Rocks mini-dresses, and have a queue of people looking to add their products to our rapidly expanding product range.

Current clients include Ibiza Rocks, Ibizarre Records, Aguas Blancas Ibiza fashion, with many more to follow before the end of the season. Our season, of course, will have no end making life much easier for you…

If you’re proud of your Ibiza product, we’re happy to help you take it to the wider audience known as ‘the rest of the world’. On the other hand, if you need the best that Ibiza has to offer you need look no further than our Ibiza online shop

Wasps force Lisa and Mikey to flee the living area to the safe haven of the bathroom.
