not content with doing my own custom ringtones see previous blog i decided i wanted custom text message sounds – so hello google….
anyway its basically the same procedure but slightly different
pick your mp3 and shorten it in audacity to however long you want the tone to be – around 6 seconds i use
open itunes and go to preferences, advanced and importing and change it to “import using aiff encoder”
drop the 6 second mp3 into itunes and right click and convert it to aiff
find it in the itunes folder
you’ll need to rename it to sms-recieved1,2,3 etc with the extension .caf
ie if you dont want the glass sound rename it to sms-received3.caf etc
open up winscp and bung it in /system/library/audio/uisounds/ and overwrite the existing one
bingo

btw i bought all of those albums so i dont see why it isnt fair use to put it on another device i own
is there a comparable winscp program for macs?
i would guess so
effectively you need an ftp program that uses sftp and ssh (as far as i’m aware) – try http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/ – or just try various mac ftp programs
hey u should make a video or something and put it on youtube. i cant get it to convert to aiff. i dont know how to do that. can u help me out?
I noticed that I had to go to edit, preferences, the general tab, and then go to import settings and select import using aiff encoder

David – in audacity when you create the sound file you can boost the volume in that (effects menu)
I don’t like audacity.

i did the ringtone bit easy enough.
