burger king lead the way with free ibiza wifi

one of the funny things that came out of my little trip across the island to san an for the ibiza rocks gig on tuesday was wandering around san an looking for wifi hotspots for the iphone site. I’m continually amazed by the amount of places who have free wifi but choose to not change their bssid or change their password from the inevitable 10 digit hex code that they have to give out.

About 6 weeks ago san an council announced that the entire paseo has got free wifi…. apparently…

i walked around it and found 5 restaurants with free unlocked wifi but no sign of the san an council one – i went into the tourism office there and asked what the name of it was – she didnt know…

i decided that i could do with some food and spotted a burger king – perfect – i havent had a burger king in ages – and guess what, yep – their bssid is BK3 and it was free unlocked wifi – so i had a pleasant 20 minutes with a double cheese burger, fries, a beer and checking my email and the bbc’s footy website before heading back to the ibiza rocks hotel and their free wifi which i unlocked for them when they opened last month

do people really talk like this ?

below our building are 2 “fast food” places – one is mr kebap – a kebab shop, and the other is a burger joint that actually does homemade burgers which are really good

every tuesday in the summer i go to ibiza rocks and end up till 3-4 in the morning going through the photos and putting them up on the net as quick as i can and every wednesday evening since i’m knackered all i want to do is have a burger or a kebab

guess which days the burger place and the kebab shop choose to close – yes – both on a fuckin wednesday

it annoys the fuck out of me

kumharas yesterday got hit with a 2 month closure for apparently encouraging and condoning drug use on their premises – what drugs? – weed

were not talking e or coke or anythig that consell has been trying to clamp down on here to stop people parting for 3 days we’re talking about one day in 2005 when kumharas held a legalise cannabis party and 4 people were nicked for smoking the devils weed

so mr bin man is not content with alienating the clubbers he’s now having a pop at the hippies and half the island who have a bit of a puff

apparently according to the local papers he also had a go at ibiza rocks sound checks at the hippodromo last week – i’m sure he has some vested interest in a business that is only going to do well when all the tourists dont turn up – as thats the only thing i can think of

We had a great time down at the ibiza rocks hotel with the Underground Heroes, Hungover Stuntmen, Metronomy and One Night Only tonight – currently doing the pics as we type but we got a hint that the Enemy would be playing but were told that we couldn’t say anything – “no comment” – so i said “of course not, i wont say anything” so we’ll leave it for the official version tonight then

Good grief – apparently 3 million people voted and knights of cydonia came out top – what a way to start a radio station…. any of the other tracks (apart from kings of leon) wouldve have been far more appropriate

however sturgiss has just announced some of the bands she’ll be playing and it sounds good: jesus and mary chain, house of love etc

habeas corpus and john mccain

i watched the daily show tonight (thursdays) and it alerted me to the above – jon stewarts take on the dickhead known as g dubya bush was great – “the procrastinator”

in essence it was:

you’ve had a president for over 7 years now and suddenly 7 months before he fucks off he’s going to find osama bin laden, solve the middle east and stop climate change (and hopefully deflect questions about that er war he started..)

and if thats not enough to turn you off them, john mccain says that the supreme courts decision to relook at the fact that maybe human beings should actually be allowed a fair trial, is “the worst decision ever made”

so its ok then if someone comes into power somewhere – grabs you lot, sticks you in a camp and throws away the key – you’d be happy with that then ? – you wouldnt feel like hypocrites at all ?

the uk and the usa bleat on and on about terror and liberty etc but they are arguably as bad as
everyone else – arguably actually worse since they pretend its good for you

i’m sure i read somewhere a few years ago that the united kingdom had one of the worst human rights violations behind the usual 4 or 5 suspects – and the u.s. the past few years i’m sure has overtaken them

i watched his speech the night obama effectively won and hilary conceded – if you have brain cells in any way shape or form do NOT vote for mccain

tomorrow we’re offski to another ibiza rocks night – 4 bands this time – thought it would be san rafael again but its going to be the the ibiza rocks hotel. i’ll probably bus it down in the afternoon and have a wander around san an and do some wifi research – which will inevitably involve having to go into bars that have wifi….

also the video interviews that lorna did at the international music summit she’s putting up – they are fucking great – if i wasnt thinking i should behave myself i could have a field day

i really hope the ims release the audio of the clubs panel because people here and abroad need to hear it – andy mckays interview is great start – but it took us and lorna to bring it to the public – are you llistening the IMS ?

free ringtones for your iphone – its dead easy

so i eventually watched jobs’ wwdc keynote speech – and the software upgrade to 2.0 will be dead interesting – push email? – that will blow blackberries out of the water

one thing that i suddenly thought was that i was bored with my ringtone – after trying to find free ringtones i could add, i came across a site that explained how to take your own mp3 collection and basically create your own ringtones – for nothing – yep – nada, fuck all (2$ in the itunes store) – it didnt work properly but at the end they said – of course if you have a jailbroken phone just transfer the m4r file onto your phone via ssh – sod that i have an ftp program….

it took me 5 minutes to change my ringtone to chelsea dagger by the fratellis

you’ll need a jailbroken phone
winscp
wifi
audacity (free on windows)

basically create a 30 sec mp3 through audacity
import it into itunes and convert it to aac (or theres probably other conversion utilities)
find the new file in the itunes folder (documents and settings etc) and rename it to whatever.m4r
ftp into your phone using winscp and transfer it to root/private/var/Ringtones folder and bobs yer uncle and fannys yer aunt

free ringtones of whatever mp3 you care to desire on your iphone

i cant believe how easy it was

NEVER buy a ringtone !

once people get the hang of jailbreaking their phone (takes about 2 minutes and is dead easy) and this all becomes common knowledge – ringtone sites, the apple itunes sites etc will all become moot

i worked out as well how to get round the iphone video recorder 30 use limit…. its still on a 30 second limit but hey i dont have a credit card to pay for it

jailbreaking is the new p2p type killer app…
