i got my own personal iphonetoday

after having the idea and convincing people we need an iphone to do the iphoneibiza site – my mate takes dibs on it…

anyway, today i get my own iphone – to cut a long story short i got told i have an iphone at around 10.30am – about 30 minutes ago (12.30am) i decided that i couldnt be arsed to wait till tomorrow and google unlocking the bloody thing properly – (my payg sim wouldnt work – which sort defeats half the purpose of er the phone…)

we’d originally done it on a mac and it seemed to work – but i left the office with original chip in and not my vodafone sim – by the time i realised everyone had buggered off (with good reason as it was boss’ birthday)

so went to meet a very lovely lady doing the international music summit pr – at el hotel – park up and there’s 3 hummer black things outside – it was funny – go and meet in the restaurant and run into my good friend, lenny’s manager phillip – who we’re meeting him tomorrow again for next months mag

anyway, “no service” on this inital jailbreak via the mac but i’m on vista which means you take a punt at stuff like this

downloaded itunes and ran it and restarted vista until it recognised the iphone when usb’d in
downloaded iliberty+
installed both with trying to shut off most of itunes tendancy to be too helpful…

ran itunes
cabled the iphone
ran iliberty+ with everything ticked
hit “go for it”

it seemed to hang after about 75% – but i’d seen the phone say the package had been uploaded and unzipped – (i shut down itunes which i had forgotten was still open) – it hung on something so i pulled the usb out and figured it was hanging and got a refreshment to see if anything would change in 4 minutes – when i got back it had moved on and 2 minutes later it had rebooted and i now have a payg sim in an unlocked iphone and its gorgeous

the original iphone from the states came unlocked, and this was a locked uk phone so this was a bit of “er – sure, it should be a piece of the proverbial” – but the hassle of unlocking is definitly worth it

i’m looking at this iphone and thinking “you have no idea what paces i’m going to put you through and what i want to do” *laughs*
