We’ve set up a free wifi hotspot here in ibiza for our local bar below our apartment – so we can work from there. We had a wander around Santa Eulalia today with our iphone looking for wifi hotspots – we found loads. As a test we’re sitting in the bar on our iphone adding in a wifi hotspot direct into the iphoneibiza database and then doing a blog about it while having a beer in the sun – it can’t get better than that…

we’ve been in contact to ask them when the iphone is going to be released in spain and to shamelessly promote our iphoneibiza website

i dont think its fair to reproduce private emails publicly so we wont but we got referred to a lovely piece of legalese

we’re pointing out that er we’re promoting apple’s iphone and we’re probably one of the handful of websites in the world doing a dedicated iphone site that uses the google maps api (on a side note we found out the the google maps api team down in sydney, australia cant get iphones down there…..)

we love the iphone and some of the team actually prefer macs to windows – so come on mr jobs – give us a break

ibiza webcam

so ive set up a ibiza webcam. This is a test so far for our ibiza webcam but in the next few days we’ll mount it permanently and you’ll be able to move the ¡biza webcam remotely – zoom in and out, pan, tilt etc – though i’m not sure how that will work when 2 people try to do it at the same time..

ideally i want to use its video capability so we can do live video streaming sunsets

(theres another job ive set myself)

so i can watch them from the bar downstairs on our iphone on our wifi hotspot…

we wanted to try it out so I set up an access point so our local bar could get our wifi access. So we’re sat in the bar having a beer and typing this blog ok our iPhone. I also set up a webcam at ibizaa-a.com/webcam afternoon

the interesting thing now with the iphone and web dev is that you have to rethink how you design – putting 20px font sizes on a normal web page is unthinkable – but with the iphone it makes complete sense because of the way you can scroll with the touch screen

We finally got our own iphone this morning and it is gorgeous – the new www.iphoneibiza.com site works perfectly on the iphone – and i’m impressed with the way it handles the main ibiza now magazine website as well – everything works…

Now we’ve got tons of work to do to put everything in – and this afternoon i’ve got a high end web cam to work with over the weekend as well – zoom, pan, rotate, video etc

why put it off ? – i had an idea a week ago to do an iphone ibiza site – the iphone has the ability to pick up phone numbers on a website so that you can simply touch screen it and it dials that number. The iphone is an amazing piece of kit but the beauty is that it uses safari and the latest css 3.

So after a week of being surrounded by empty fag packets, beer bottles and a palid complexion i’ve decided to let it go www.iphoneibiza.com

The beauty of the iphone is that you can also use its wifi ability to surf the net at any wifi hotspot – which means that you can sit in the middle of plaza del parque in ibiza town and use ibiza town council’s free wifi to surf – but you can also embed tel numbers into the code – want to book a restaurant? – click on , bobs yer unkle and fannys yer aunt

we’ve got everyone on the case looking up everywhere on the island that has a free wifi hotspot

i thought that doing a site from one google map was different – this is again fun to see what you can do

the only reason they’re doing google maps is because of me and by using maps.google.com to give people directions is hardly groundbreaking – they have to use an *external website* to do it – be original and do it from your OWN SITE

i guess that thing i was going to do before www.iphoneibiza.com came along i’ll have to do…. oops have i let the cat out of the bag ?

wasnt www.ibiza-now.com good enough ? an entire site about ibiza run from one google map not enough?
