The Reflecting Pool - about 9/11

July 6, 2008

There’s a film just out which takes all the 9/11 conspiracies and the amateur films and puts it all together in a hollywood style (ish) film

Essentially what theyve done is take all the facts and woven a film around it using a 3rd party journalist to tell the story - i’ve watched all the 9/11 films and i spent awhile looking at all the websites etc - the film isnt actually half bad if you ignore the subject matter - when you take in the subject matter its a very bold film and needs to be seen

9/11 took place on my birthday and i’m still amazed to this day that no mainstream media is doing anything about the wholesale dodgy aspect of it all - there’ just too much shit about it to ignore

there was one part that made sense when (although dramatised) a norad guy says “we were all running war games that day, norad, fema, air force, fbi etc, no-one knew what was real or not” - that i think is the argument - plausable deniability

the uk did it on a smaller scale with the 7/7 london bombings - i guess they didn’t have the nerve to do it on the u.s. scale - thankfully….

i guess in a couple/three hundred years people will look back at history and shake their heads and wonder why

the music - strength in numbers - 9/10

July 5, 2008

ive just played it for the first time and i cant believe how good this album is - i’m playing it straight away again

the title track had been played on nme.com and i just i had to listen to the album -

awhile into it i checked how many tracks were left because i didnt want to go “oh shit are there no more tracks, the album’s finished”

its an hypnotic album - it reminds me of a cross between the verve and lacuna coil but with a heavy dance beat - but when you consider its produced by flood and paul hartnoll its not surprising

there is not a single duff track on it, none of them sound like a filler - the 13th track “the price” could be dropped in at space or amnesia at the end of a set and it would send the place nuts, but you could also play it at a rock night and it would do the same - if i was a band about to go onstage, thats the track i would choose as the final warm up track (to be honest most of them would be eligible) - listening to the track i’ve got a huge grin on my face

(the only problem is that its the penultimate track on the album and i think it should be the last so i’ve altered the file name and id tag on the mp3)

its the best “album” ive heard in yonks - got to be album of the year

if they are a yet to be announced band at ibiza rocks i would be a very very happy person indeed - i’d love to see them live

nme.com radio actually works

July 5, 2008

a week after they went on air proper i sat thinking about how its gone.

unfortunately i dont how long the honeymoon period will last before the inevitable money men stick their oar in

however if youre lile me and listen to radio all day and are sick of the same 5 songs every hour and annoying ads then this a breath of fresh air - very similar in feel to when xfm first started

the beauty of net only radio is that almost be definition if you can keep your listener for an hour you’ll keep them all day - hence the lack of obvious and annoying playlists

ive heard pearl jam, the verve, pink floyd, last shadow puppets, ladyhawke, elastica, curve, clash, metallica, wombats, cure, pigeons, the music and god knows what else inbetween - rarely a naff “hit single” or easy obvious track among them - eg i heard gravity grave by verve

midweek i had a request of mine played: the wonderstuff - circlesquare (i’m going to test them with lacuna coil - heavens a lie next week)

(they even had a dancey type show last night that i didnt turn off)

and no ads! - ive spent all week hearing tracks and then googling to find out who it was

bleedin perfect radio

how to change text message sounds for the iphone

July 5, 2008

not content with doing my own custom ringtones see previous blog i decided i wanted custom text message sounds - so hello google….

anyway its basically the same procedure but slightly different

pick your mp3 and shorten it in audacity to however long you want the tone to be - around 6 seconds i use

open itunes and go to preferences, advanced and importing and change it to “import using aiff encoder”

drop the 6 second mp3 into itunes and right click and convert it to aiff

find it in the itunes folder

you’ll need to rename it to sms-recieved1,2,3 etc with the extension .caf

ie if you dont want the glass sound rename it to sms-received3.caf etc

open up winscp and bung it in /system/library/audio/uisounds/ and overwrite the existing one

bingo

here’s one i made earlier using ministry - jesus built my hot rod ;)

changing text message sound in iphone

to change the name of the text message sound follow the instructions here

July 4, 2008

I love it when things like this happen…. I got my newsletter from ibiza rocks and aside from the usual round up i saw the mention of ibiza rocks doing a “gig” in london - i had heard about this a couple of weeks ago through a brand marketing website that was talking about ibiza rocks & sony ericcson doing stuff in the summer in the uk but heard nothing more.

anyway this was in the newsletter (my bold)

Next Wednesday (July 9th) we’re hiding our light under a bushel for a very, very special very, very secret show in association with the grandmother of all social networking sites MySpace.

We can’t say much but it’ll be legendary - click here for your chance to be among the 200 lucky winners.

so when you click through to the myspace page you get this:

there’s nothing really been going on the past few days i can be suitably sarcastic about - apart from an event that happened on sunday (and no not the footy) but after re-reading my inital blog about i decided to unpublish it

today i have been sick and aching after delivering july ibiza now magazine around the north yesterday and of course its ibiza rocks tonight but i cant miss it so i will troop on….

burger king lead the way with free ibiza wifi

June 27, 2008

one of the funny things that came out of my little trip across the island to san an for the ibiza rocks gig on tuesday was wandering around san an looking for wifi hotspots for the iphone site. I’m continually amazed by the amount of places who have free wifi but choose to not change their bssid or change their password from the inevitable 10 digit hex code that they have to give out.

About 6 weeks ago san an council announced that the entire paseo has got free wifi…. apparently…

i walked around it and found 5 restaurants with free unlocked wifi but no sign of the san an council one - i went into the tourism office there and asked what the name of it was - she didnt know…

i decided that i could do with some food and spotted a burger king - perfect - i havent had a burger king in ages - and guess what, yep - their bssid is BK3 and it was free unlocked wifi - so i had a pleasant 20 minutes with a double cheese burger, fries, a beer and checking my email and the bbc’s footy website before heading back to the ibiza rocks hotel and their free wifi which i unlocked for them when they opened last month

do people really talk like this ?

June 27, 2008

found this great blog today from someone who went to ibiza for a stag weekend: http://danielclifford.blogspot.com/2008/06/blow-your-whistles.html

can you tell i’m going to be sarcastic ?

some choice quotes:

Awesome. We did a couple of big nights out, rolling heavy on the gaza strip we owned that night and then hit Hed Kandi hard on the saturday night.

“rolling heavy on the gaza strip we owned that night” - now what the fuck is that supposed to mean ?? - did they take out the odd suicide bomber with their ak-47’s or make middle east peace with the palestinians and israeli’s ?

“We partied to sunrise, popping the collar off an ice cold Sol at 6:30am” - lightweights…

“The groom and the best man, suppin’ Sols at 6:30am, we roll like that..” - erm.. since when did anyone in the uk “roll like that” - fookin ell - next they’ll be blinging and saying awesome every 5 minutes

“It was an awesome weekend away, with some of the freshest cats i know, Warren had an awesome time, and really, thats all that matters.” - i wonder if his blog system has to have a minimum amount of “awesome” in it for it to publish

you’re from fuckin sheffield not some frat boy from santa monica

bleedin typical

June 25, 2008

last year it pissed me off and now its pissing me off again…

what i’m talking about is wednesdays

below our building are 2 “fast food” places - one is mr kebap - a kebab shop, and the other is a burger joint that actually does homemade burgers which are really good

every tuesday in the summer i go to ibiza rocks and end up till 3-4 in the morning going through the photos and putting them up on the net as quick as i can and every wednesday evening since i’m knackered all i want to do is have a burger or a kebab

guess which days the burger place and the kebab shop choose to close - yes - both on a fuckin wednesday

it annoys the fuck out of me

kumharas yesterday got hit with a 2 month closure for apparently encouraging and condoning drug use on their premises - what drugs? - weed

were not talking e or coke or anythig that consell has been trying to clamp down on here to stop people parting for 3 days we’re talking about one day in 2005 when kumharas held a legalise cannabis party and 4 people were nicked for smoking the devils weed

so mr bin man is not content with alienating the clubbers he’s now having a pop at the hippies and half the island who have a bit of a puff

apparently according to the local papers he also had a go at ibiza rocks sound checks at the hippodromo last week - i’m sure he has some vested interest in a business that is only going to do well when all the tourists dont turn up - as thats the only thing i can think of

ibiza rocks myspace page

June 25, 2008

someone really ought to tell them to change their tag line…

“Ibiza Rocks on the Beach again in 2007″ ;)

and someone deleted my pics of the opening night off the comments… does anyone know how to unfriend yourself from myspace ?

only joking :)
